I love the majesty of horses. The natural elegance and uninhibited energy of the horses in their movement is similar to that of dancers. I have always had a fascination with movement– its past, present, and the continuity that exists in high-energy activities, such as the rodeo. In Santa Fe, the Rodeo is an intergenerational event where sequined rodeo queens, seasoned cowboys and bucking horses vie for your attention. The atmosphere of the arena is charged with electricity and the Santa Fe sky presents an incredible backdrop for capturing the movement of the horses.  As the sun sets, the bright lights of the arena combine with the setting sun and the glitter of this small-town setting become serendipitous. The intention of this project was to integrate the emotional aspects of movement within the cultural context of the rodeo – combining the rhythm of the event, the strength of the animals, and the juxtaposition of the extraordinary setting.
